gbif-explorer — GBIF Explorer is a mobile-first Progressive Web App that helps people discover biodiversity around them. It uses geolocation and GBIF data to show nearby observations of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms on an interactive map. GBIF aggregates biodiversity records from sources such as iNaturalist, eBird, museums, research institutions, and national observation portals. By turning GBIF’s extensive but primarily research-oriented biodiversity database into a practical field-exploration tool, the project aims to make local nature discovery more accessible, engaging, and useful.(github repo)
